  • Main applicant requirements

    • Aged 18 or older, with no upper age limit
    • Pass criminal record and security checks
    • Demonstrate that your investment funds come from a lawful source
  • Dependents who can be included

    • Legal spouse
    • Children (including adopted children) who are unmarried and financially dependent, with no upper age limit
    • Parents of both spouses (those under 65 must show financial dependence)
    • Minor siblings (under 18) who are financially dependent
  • Investment options

    • Choose one of the following qualifying investment routes:
    • Fund investment: invest €500,000 in a qualifying Golden Visa investment fund in Portugal and hold it for at least 5 years.
    • Qualifying funds: organized under Portuguese law, with a maturity of at least 5 years at the time of investment, with at least 60% of capital invested in commercial companies headquartered in Portugal, and with no direct or indirect investment in real estate.
    • Scientific research: a minimum investment of €500,000.
    • Arts and cultural heritage: a non-refundable donation of at least €250,000.
    • Company formation: invest at least €500,000 in a company headquartered in Portugal and create 5 permanent jobs, or set up a new company and create 10 jobs.
    • Real estate: the property purchase route (from €280,000) closed in October 2023.

How to apply for a Portugal Golden Visa

  1. Deposit and initial assessment

    Sign a deposit agreement and complete an initial case assessment.

  2. Signing the agreements

    Sign the Golden Visa service agreement and the investment agreement with the fund.

  3. File preparation and fund transfer

    Prepare your application file and transfer the investment funds for your chosen route.

  4. Application filing

    Submit your application to the Agency for Integration, Migration and Asylum (AIMA) for review.

  5. Preliminary approval and biometrics

    Receive preliminary approval, then travel to Portugal to complete your biometrics.

  6. Residence permit issuance

    Receive final approval; your residence card is delivered to you in your country of residence.
    The card is valid for 2 years and can then be renewed for successive periods, provided you maintain the investment and meet the minimum stay requirement (14 days in each 2-year period).
