Bulgaria Golden Visa: Permanent Residence by Investment

Bulgaria Golden Visa: Permanent Residence by Investment
  • What is the Bulgaria Golden Visa?

    • The Bulgaria Golden Visa is a permanent residence program introduced by the Bulgarian government for non-EU investors and their families.
    • Investment in a fund licensed by Bulgaria's Financial Supervision Commission (FSC).
    • Long-term residence in Bulgaria, a full member of the Schengen Area since January 2025.
    • A minimum investment of BGN 1,000,000 (approximately €511,300 at the fixed rate of €1 = BGN 1.95583, or about US$583,000), held for at least 5 years.
    • Taxes, fees, and related costs are not included.

Benefits of Bulgarian permanent residence

  • Permanent residence for the whole family

The main applicant, spouse, and dependent children all receive permanent residence cards.

  • Live, study, and work with no time limit

In an EU country with an affordable cost of living.

  • Travel freely across the Schengen Area

Bulgaria has been a full Schengen member since January 2025, so you can travel across 29 countries under the 90/180-day rule.

  • 10% flat personal income tax

A flat rate, and one of the lowest in the EU.

  • A path to citizenship and the U.S. E-2 visa

Once you meet the residence, language, and integration requirements set by Bulgarian law, you may apply for naturalization. Bulgaria is an E-2 treaty country, so Bulgarian citizens can apply for the U.S. E-2 Treaty Investor visa.

Key advantages of the Bulgaria Golden Visa for permanent residence

  • Fund investment only

    No government donation is required.

  • No ongoing physical presence required

There is no residence requirement for the first 5 years; after 5 years, you need only visit an EU country once a year and Bulgaria once every 6 years to keep your card.

  • Withdraw your capital after 5 years

You may withdraw the investment after the program's minimum 5-year holding period without affecting your permanent residence.

  • Permanent residence from the outset

You receive permanent residence directly, with no temporary residence stage, and the program opens a pathway toward EU citizenship once you meet the residence and language requirements.

  • Simple eligibility requirements

No interview and no language, education, or business experience requirements.

  • No upper age limit for the main applicant

The main applicant must be at least 18, with no upper age limit.
