Global Entry for Green Card Holders: Faster U.S. Entry for EB-5 Investors as Airport Security Tightens
January 19, 2026 · EB-5 · 13 min read
For many years, IMM Group has supported families and entrepreneurs through the EB-5 program, not only through the petition and green card stages but also after immigration: travel, daily life, business, and long-term risk management in the United States.
One reality is becoming increasingly clear: holding a green card is not enough. What makes the difference is knowing how to use it effectively and correctly.
That is where Global Entry for green card holders comes in: a fully legitimate, transparent, and official U.S. government program that many EB-5 clients have yet to fully understand or use to their advantage.

What is Global Entry?
Global Entry is a Trusted Traveler Program administered by U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), part of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS).
- How it works: Global Entry allows travelers whom the U.S. government has vetted and pre-approved as trusted travelers to clear entry through automated kiosks or a mobile app at ports of entry, instead of waiting in line for traditional manual inspection.
- Core principle: The program follows a “vet first, travel faster” approach, simplifying entry by screening and verifying travelers in advance rather than inspecting everyone at the border.
Why Global Entry matters more as U.S. security tightens
In the wake of major geopolitical upheavals and the pandemic, the United States has tightened controls at airports and ports of entry in several key ways:
- Longer, more thorough inspections: Entry wait times have grown, and officers are scrutinizing travel history, residence, and purpose of entry more closely.
- Use of technology: CBP uses data networks and biometrics to sort travelers by risk level.
CBP’s current strategy is to tighten screening for the general traveling public while creating a separate clearance channel for pre-screened travelers (the Trusted Traveler Programs). Global Entry is the priority channel designed for this high-trust group.
Benefits of Global Entry
Global Entry offers two practical benefits, time savings and a smoother travel experience, which matter especially to entrepreneurs and investors:
- Faster entry: Instead of waiting 30–90 minutes at a port of entry, Global Entry members can often clear entry in 1–3 minutes, even at peak times.
- TSA PreCheck on domestic flights: Global Entry membership includes TSA PreCheck, giving members access to dedicated security lanes on domestic U.S. flights. Screening is simpler (you can keep on your shoes and belt and leave your laptop in your bag), which can save significant time at major airports.
- Cost-effective: At a government fee of US$120 for a 5-year membership, Global Entry is a low-cost, high-value time saver for frequent travelers.
Can green card holders get Global Entry? Eligibility for EB-5 investors
Green card holders, including EB-5 investors, are eligible to apply for Global Entry and are well suited to the program, provided they meet CBP’s vetting criteria:
- Who can apply: Holders of a valid U.S. green card (a 2-year conditional green card or a 10-year green card).
Vetting criteria:
- No serious criminal record.
- No customs or immigration violations.
- A consistent record of residence, tax filings, and travel history.
Note: CBP has full discretion to approve or deny applications and to revoke membership. Global Entry is a privilege, not an automatic entitlement for green card holders.
Limitations of Global Entry
For a complete picture, investors should understand what Global Entry does not do:
- It does not replace a U.S. visa or green card.
- It does not exempt members from further inspection if a CBP officer identifies concerns or risk indicators.
The core value of Global Entry is that it helps CBP place travelers in a low-risk category, which streamlines the entry process.
How to apply for Global Entry as a green card holder
The application process follows official CBP guidance:
Step 1 – Create a Trusted Traveler Programs (TTP) account
- Register online through the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Trusted Traveler Programs website.
- The information you provide must match your green card and passport.
Step 2 – Submit your application and pay the fee
- Provide your full residence, employment, and travel history.
- Pay the US$120 fee (non-refundable).
Step 3 – Initial review
- CBP runs a background check and assesses your risk level.
- If you are conditionally approved, you can schedule an interview.
Step 4 – Interview (2 options)
- An interview at a Global Entry enrollment center in the United States; or
- Enrollment on Arrival: complete your interview when you land in the United States after an international flight.
The interview is short (about 5–10 minutes) and includes document verification, fingerprinting, and a photo.
