According to the job search platform Jobseeker, Canada was the most searched country for work-related migration among all the countries studied. Australia was the second most searched destination for people looking to move abroad for work, followed by Switzerland and the United States, tied for third.

What makes Canada a land of opportunity for foreign workers?

One reason for Canada’s appeal is Express Entry, the system that manages Canada’s federal economic immigration programs and gives highly skilled workers a faster route to permanent residence. Through Express Entry, Canada invites the highest-ranked candidates based on criteria such as work experience, education, and language skills. This approach not only attracts talent but also helps Canada maintain a high-quality workforce that integrates readily into the economy.

Beyond Express Entry, Canada runs a range of other immigration programs, including the Provincial Nominee Program (PNP), which draws skilled workers to specific provinces and territories, and the Temporary Foreign Worker Program, which lets international workers gain Canadian work experience and improve their prospects of settling in Canada long term.

Canada also offers immigration programs designed for international entrepreneurs and investors, such as the Start-up Visa (SUV) Program and provincial entrepreneur streams for business owners who actively operate a business in a province. These programs reflect Canada’s commitment to attracting investment and new business ideas that create jobs and support sustainable economic growth. This open policy has made Canada an attractive destination not only for skilled workers but also for international entrepreneurs looking to join its advanced, dynamic economy and promising business environment.

Canada’s high employment rate among immigrants is another important factor. According to Statistics Canada, employment rates for working-age immigrants in 2023 were strong:

  • Immigrants in Canada for 5 years or less: 77.8%
  • Immigrants in Canada for 5 to 10 years: 81.9%
  • Immigrants in Canada for more than 10 years: 84.5%

These figures show that immigrants in Canada can not only find stable employment but also build long-term careers.

Canada offers both quality of life and opportunity

Beyond its strong economy, Canada is known for its public healthcare system, comprehensive social benefits, and diverse culture, which together create an appealing environment for newcomers. In U.S. News & World Report’s 2024 Best Countries rankings, Canada placed 4th with a score of 94.1, earning high marks for quality of life, entrepreneurship, agility, and social purpose. These strengths make Canada one of the most desirable places in the world to live and work. For families considering immigration to Canada, the country offers a solid foundation for a stable and promising future.

Canada places strong emphasis on family support and workforce development, giving children an excellent environment in which to grow. Children have access to an advanced education system and opportunities to learn and build skills at leading schools, which opens doors for their future careers. Canadian workplaces also promote equality and help people realize their potential, so newcomers can integrate quickly, advance in their careers, and build a solid foundation for the next generation.

The Government of Canada also regularly refines its immigration policies to reflect the country’s evolving needs, helping newcomers thrive both professionally and personally.

With strengths like these, it is no surprise that Canada is seen as a land of opportunity, not only to work but also to live, build a career, and secure a stable future for the whole family.
